Course Overview

Our 8-week Cybersecurity Essentials course is designed to provide a strong foundation in cybersecurity for individuals seeking to enter the field. Delivered through 3-hour sessions, Monday to Thursday, this immersive program combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience to prepare participants for modern cybersecurity challenges.

The course starts with an introduction to core cybersecurity principles, focusing on the CIA Triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) and key risk management strategies. Participants will explore network security, learning how to secure network communications and defend against common attacks like DDoS, sniffing, and spoofing. Practical exercises, including network traffic analysis and working with firewalls and IDS/IPS, reinforce these concepts.

As the course progresses, participants will learn how to secure operating systems (Windows and Linux) and applications, identify vulnerabilities, and apply secure coding practices. Vulnerability assessments and hands-on web application security exercises will further develop these skills.

Incident management is a key focus, covering the entire incident response lifecycle—from detection and analysis to breach recovery. Simulated scenarios will help participants practice handling real-world incidents.

The program also emphasizes malware and phishing defense, covering viruses, ransomware, worms, and social engineering tactics. Practical exercises in identifying phishing attacks and using antivirus tools are included.

In addition, participants will learn about developing and enforcing security policies, ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and HIPAA, and strategies for data protection and privacy management.

The course dives into advanced topics in the final weeks, including zero-day vulnerabilities, advanced persistent threats (APTs), and security frameworks like NIST and ISO 27001. Through real-world applications, participants will gain experience with industry-leading tools like CrowdStrike Falcon, Splunk, and Proofpoint.

By the end of the course, participants will have gained comprehensive knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, hands-on experience with threat detection and incident response, and a strong understanding of security technologies and frameworks. This course is ideal for beginners or professionals looking to enhance their cybersecurity skills and advance their careers in the field.
